PDK Training Module
Introduction

(a) Welcome participants to the workshop and provide them with a packet of materials. Review the agenda for the day.
(b) Proceed to an overview of PDK:
Purpose and background - refer to this section for details
- Who created PDK; the development process
- Who PDK is for
- What purposes it serves for practitioners
- Online professional development
Structure and content
- Over 9 hours of video investigations on CD-ROM, including interviews with teachers, learners, researchers, and administrators; classroom practice; and in-depth exploration of topic areas
- A website containing online tools such as discussion boards; teacher portfolios with needs assessment activities, data collection suggestions, action plan structures, and reporting frameworks; and knowledge databases that draw together related resources on areas of interest to adult educators
- Information and links to resources on such topics as learner anxiety, motivation, multi-level classes, diversity, teacher roles, and learning differences
(c) Engage participants in a discussion of their goals for this workshop. You may also wish to ask such questions as:
- How comfortable are you with this type of technology?
- What concerns do you have about using PDK in your practice?
- Do you feel that a tool like PDK can fulfill your professional development needs?
Record goals and other responses on the flipchart to revisit later. You will also want to keep these in mind as you guide participants through the training, so that you can highlight particular features or provide additional support as needed.
