To the Trainer:
In this section we address the topics of data analysis, probability and
statistics—complex vocabulary to describe numbers that are ubiquitous
in our world. In every newspaper, on every news show, on every paycheck
stub, and in many political ads we are confronted by data and statistics
in some form. Knowing how to interpret the information is a skill that
is critical to functioning in the world as citizens, workers, and parents.
Accepting the information from news stories, documents, and reports without
understanding means that we can’t formulate good questions. Which
means that we can’t check for accuracy. One way to develop the skill
of understanding and interpreting others’ charts and graphs is to
practice creating charts and graphs.
