Waterbury Adult Education: Technology-facilitated Lesson Plan (The Pyramids of Egypt)*

Teachers: Edward Staskauskas, ABE

Class/Level: ABE RR

Lesson Duration: 1 hour+

Objectives (Learning Goals):

  • To find information about the pyramids of Egypt
  • To obtain introductory knowledge of the Internet
  • To become more comfortable with a personal computer
  • To work as a group

Rationale:

Fits in with a directed reading assignment

Technologies Used:

Other Materials:

Encyclopedias, dictionaries, magazines, various textbooks from book room.

Learning and Teaching Activities:

“Surfing for Substance.” In our ABE resource room, we are fortunate to have the space for three networked computers. The students were grouped into three and used various search engines to find web sites. Student participation was very obvious as they formed their own questions. They began researching to answer their own questions pertaining to the lesson.

Evaluation of Learning:

Written and oral reports submitted by each group.

Comments:

The students produced interesting information that they shared. I would like to have a few additional computer systems in the ABE Resource room.
