Program Description

Waterbury Adult Education’s initiative entitled “Technology Education and Curriculum Horizons” (TEACH) is a multi-step approach to effectively integrate technology into the adult education classroom teaching model. Areas of primary importance and focus during the 2002-2003 school year included a broad infusion of educational technologies through the development of pilot projects in all program areas; an on-going initiative designed to further expand the capabilities of all instructional staff to infuse technology into the teaching/learning process; the streamlining of all administrative processes to better serve our students through the design and implementation of an inter-office email system and deployment of the Connecticut Adult Education Reporting System (CARS); the involvement of our students and their families in the fulfillment of Waterbury Adult Education’s mission statement through activities including the creation of a new web site that will include content provided through collaborative efforts; the further development of linkages with other programs and educators to provide a venue to share ideas/information by creating of an online resource.

We’ve accomplished all of the stated goals and objectives during the course of the 2002-2003 school year with a few noteworthy exceptions; first, we have not yet received the traffic that we had hoped for to our online forum; next, we are still not at a point where the instructional staff can use the CARS system to view student information directly; finally, we have not fully developed an adequate ABE or AHSCDP web page that highlights student achievement throughout the year. We plan to takes steps to achieve success with the CARS related goals as soon as it becomes possible, further promote the forum once all of the instructional staff from the programs have returned from the summer break and help the ABE and AHSCDP programs create web pages to include content that demonstrates student involvement in the community.
