End-of-Year Report as of June 30, 2003
Program Description
This year we have continued to expand our facilities,
adding a wireless laptop cart with ten units, and replacing eight
outdated desktop PCs with new Dell PCs in the second floor computer
lab of The Learning Center. We continued to assess the knowledge
and use of technology by staff and students. Based on theses assessments,
we added two new staff development workshops to our curriculum,
PowerPoint and Computer Skills for Classroom Instruction (troubleshooting
and basic computer maintenance). We have continued to offer new
and diverse learning opportunities in the classroom for students
by introducing The Writer Keyboard appliance and integrating this
popular piece of equipment into our newly developed series of “project-based
learning” units.
Students and staff increased their use of our web site, using it
to: post monthly newsletters which highlight student and staff accomplishments,
display a photo gallery of field trips and special events, and share
samples of student work and photos. All Students and staff continued
to use the e-mail accounts we set up last year, expanding their
use to communicate with staff during the summer months. For the
first time we offered an “Intermediate Computer Skills”
course designed especially for ESL students as a complement to our
course entitled “Introduction to Personal Computers For ESL
Students.” This year both classes ESL computer classes included
work with The Writer Keyboard appliance. All students took the Writer
home on loan over the course of six weeks. ESL students were also
able to set up their first e-mail accounts and used them to practice
their writing skills.
