How the resource was used in class:
Teknimedia was used for the first time during
two four-week student enrichment classes that took place before
a semester break. Teknimedia was used as a teaching tool that
taught learners with different skill levels and learning styles
to learn basic computer skills.
The things I like most about the resource
are as follows:
CLS is an excellent teaching tool. The students
liked the program and learned from it. By the end of the four-week
mini-course I had a retention rate of approximately 75%, which
illustrates the students attitudes about the program.
As an instructor, I liked using Teknimedia
because it:
- Saved me time by assisting with basic computer training tasks,
allowing me to function more as program manager and individualized
instructor if students ran into difficulties.
- Teknimedia is self-placed instruction, which allows for differences
in skill levels and learning styles.
- Teknimedia sequentially and clearly presents complicated computer
concepts using high-quality audio, graphics and animation.
- Teknimedia provides hands-on practice in a controlled environment
through interactive exercises.
- Teknimedia tracks student activities and process using comprehensive
management tools.
- Teknimedia adapts to our training environment and can be used
with a variety of classes and with multiple delivery options—segments
or in its entirety.
Limitations and suggestions to overcome
shortcomings:
Due to the fact that our students come to our
school with a variety of experience and background, a small number
of students come to my classes with a higher-level computer skill
than Teknimedia offers. Therefore, additional resources should
be available for these higher-level students.
Teknimedia focuses on Windows, Word, and the
Internet. To accommodate my higher skilled students I provided
them with Professor Teaches Office 2000, which offers instruction
on other Office Programs—Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and
Publisher.
Comments:
The achievement certificates that are provided
by Teknimedia are motivating for the students. They offer students
a sense of accomplishment and proof of computer skill achievement
in their job searches.
