Northwestern Connecticut Community College/Adult Education:
Technology-facilitated Lesson Plan (Creating Student Webpages in
ESL 1 Classroom)*
Teacher:
Susan Bondra
Class/Level:
Beginning ESL
Lesson Duration:
3 - 1 hour sessions
Objectives (Learning Goals):
To read on-line short stories about other immigrant students
in California and to be able to plan a similar project.
Casas# 2.7.2
Casas# 7.2.6
Rationale:
This was an introduction to implementing a similar project for Project
Crossroads ESL1 students. These stories provided good models for the project
as well as an opportunity for students to reinforce oral reading skills.
Technologies Used:
Other Materials:
Story format handout
Learning and Teaching Activities:
We orally read as a class different stories
about students’ lives and their families from this California
website. We talked about our project, which involved creating
our stories and posting them to our website. We worked on some
of our simple stories on the SMART board. We then had students
write their stories in a structured format. When the students
were done with the written story, they had their pictures taken
with the digital camera.
Evaluation of Learning:
Several students volunteered to write their
stories on the SMART board. We corrected these stories as a class
and enjoyed reading them together.
Comments:
This lesson reinforced thinking skills, reading,
and pronunciation skills. We also produced student webpages. Please
take a look at them at:
