Meriden Public Schools Adult and Continuing Education: Technology-facilitated Lesson Plan (Physics Class)*

Teacher: Frederick Wallace, Another School Program

Class/Level: High School Science

Lesson Duration: 45 minutes

Objectives (Learning Goals):

Students will learn about Newton’s 2nd and 3rd Laws.
Students will learn about Potential and Kinetic Energy.

Rationale:

These topics are critical to issues and understanding of physics.

Technologies Used:

Vernier Software Probes, Logger Pro, Physics Carts and Track

Other Materials:

Conceptual Physics text and lab manual by Hewitt, Interactive Lab Demonstrations by Ron Thornton

Learning and Teaching Activities:

I first present the material on the topic and then set up the lab/demonstrations for the lesson asking students to predict the graphs that will be generated by the activity. We then do the activity and discuss the results, sometimes having to discuss why something didn’t perform the way it should have.

Evaluation of Learning:

Student learning of these topics have increased dramatically as demonstrated by classroom discussions and test scores.
