Program Description

Collaborating with the Supervisor of Instructional Technology, the ITP planning and implementation team refined and introduced the components of the original plan for year two, focusing on the Adult Learning Center (ALC), Meriden Business and Learning Center (MBLC) and credit diploma locations. Extended hours for the ALC, satellites at neighborhood elementary schools and distance learning for walk-in centers and the One Stop were a part of the second year addition. Expansion of professional development for technology and the use of video was a part of the whole project as was the increased use of video both on-site for. The development of systemic administrative and Board support for the integration of technology into all adult and family literacy programs underlies the whole project. Some barriers were in the area of increasing the access at the One Stop since the DOL closed our larger facility and replaced it with a small, limited space. However, there are other notable achievements:

  • Labs at MBLC are greatly increased in both capacity and in the availability of software
  • Server installed at MBLC
  • Licenses (six) to use PLATO online were contracted so that students at sites without resident software could still access PLATO
  • Adult education technology is part of the fabric of the new district technology plan under development (to be completed and presented to the Board in the Fall)
  • A website that will integrate all adult and continuing education opportunities is nearly complete and additional enhancements to allow some "pre-testing" inline are now in progress
  • Whiteboard technology is being introduced in four classes
