Instructional Technology Utilization Survey of Mid-Western Adult Literacy Programs

John Sabatini, Senior Researcher
National Center on Adult Literacy, Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania

Key Findings: Software Use in Adult Literacy Instruction

Word processing software was used for instructional or instructional preparation activities in almost 80% of the programs surveyed. The next most popular type of software in use was software for Drill and practice (63%), followed by Tutorial and Game programs (59% and 56% respectively).

Nearly 70% of the programs surveyed used software as part of their reading and mathematics instruction, with about 55% reporting use of software in writing and GED preparation. The less than 40% use of software in other areas possibly reflects the fact that not all programs surveyed support these types of instructional programs.
