Mini-Case Study: Looking at Examples of Technology Integration Lesson Plans

Objectives:

  • Clarify that there are many types of technologies
  • Provide quality examples of technology integration lesson plans
  • Evaluate technology integration lesson plans to see how they could be replicated in other Adult Ed classrooms.

Activity

  1. Have the teachers work in five different groups
  2. Each group will be given a lesson plan that shows an innovative approach to integrating technology in the classroom
  3. The group will be asked to evaluate the lesson
  4. They will discuss:
    - Strengths and weakness of the lesson
    - How or if it could be modified to work in their classroom
    - Potential problems in replications
    - Did the lessonŐs technology component added value to the lesson
  5. Each group reports to the larger group.

Transitioning Statement

Many types of technologies are available to the Adult Ed learner, but there are also valuable tools for the Adult Ed teacher located on the Internet.

The Internet is full of examples of technology rich lessons. For this activity, we started by surfing the Web and finding examples of integrated lesson plans for the core content areas (Social Studies, English, Math, and Science), and some cross-curricular lessons. We started this activity with the group by listing the topics on the board and letting the groups chose which lesson they wanted to review. We included a copy of all of the lessons in the participant notebook and found tat in several cases teachers chose to do projects that looked very similar to some of the lessons that were reviewed.
