3. Reviewing the Website and the Workbook
The Website
Provide a brief overview of the website.
Using an LCD projector, guide participants through the registration
process. (See the LiteracyLink Registration Instructions in this training
module.) Then, demonstrate the various features/tools in the Home Space;
time permitting, briefly touch on the "Tools" and "Learning" sections. Ask
participants to explore the section of the website that corresponds to
their assigned subject. Ask them to consider the following questions as
they review the website:
- How well does the website complement the video?
- What parts of the website are helpful, confusing, interesting, etc.?
The following directions will help participants locate the social studies
and science internet activities.
SOCIAL STUDIES - WEBSITE DIRECTIONS
- Once you reach your Home Space, click "Workplace Essential Skills & GED Connection."
- Click "Social Studies."
- Under "Internet Activities," click "Themes in U.S. History."
- Click the yellow buttons to explore "About," "Key Ideas," "Activity," "Quiz," and "Follow Up."
SCIENCE - WEBSITE DIRECTIONS
- Once you reach your Home Space, click "Workplace Essential Skills & GED Connection."
- Click "Science."
- Under "Internet Activities," click "Life Science."
- Click the yellow buttons to explore "About," "Key Ideas," "Activity," "Quiz," and "Follow Up."
The Workbook
Ask participants to peruse copies of the Social Studies and Science
workbook. Try to bring enough for everyone. Ask participants to consider
the following questions as they review their assigned topic area in the
workbook:
- How well does the workbook "fit" with the video and the website?
- Is it an effective, complementary resource? Why/why not?
